Gujarati New Year is observed a day after Diwali. The festival, which is celebrated with a lot of zeal in Gujarat, marks the beginning of the Gujarati calendar, Vikram Samvat. The festival marks the closure of old books of accounts and the opening of new ones. It is also known as Bestu Varas or Gujarati Nav Varsh.
