In the 1970s, the golden age of sports watches was in full swing. They became statement pieces, clear and undeniable ways to express your sense of style. Sports watches from that era remained attractive to a dedicated community of enthusiasts.
MT&W Watches goal is to capture the wonder that characterized the 1970s for sports watches. They want to stand up for the retro style and tone that is rapidly disappearing, by developing their own tribute pieces.
The patina dial is a true hallmark of the brand, and you’ll be able to find it on each and every one of these vintage timepieces. MT&W mission is clear: create classic watches for a new generation.
Patina is a scientific process that occurs naturally over the years through oxidation and can be quickened with the help of chemicals. Simply put, patina is an effect that gives items a more aged appearance. These days, the technique is frequently used by luxury fashion brands to give jewellery and accessories an antique finish.
At MT&W, each patina dials is handcrafted – meaning no two are exactly alike. To create signature patina effect, watchmakers use a technique called patination. The dial is treated with a special combination of chemicals that varies based on the desired colour of the patina. They then apply heat and humidity to the dial and begin the oxidation process, which allows the patina to start showing. The end result is a one-of-a-kind patina dial that’s unique to your individual watch.
They paint each of the watch’s dials to complement the metallic colours of the patina and encase the dial in 316 stainless steel and domed K1 mineral crystal. The combination of a modern 40mm bezel and a vintage design is yet another example of our unique aesthetic. As for the watch’s movement, we use the reliable Seiko VK63 movement, which allows the watch to retain its slim shape.
