Arowanas are freshwater bone fish belonging to the Osteoglossinae family, sometimes known as bony tongues, but the latter name is now more commonly applied to the Arapaimidae family. The head is bony and the elongated body is covered by large, heavy scales, with a mosaic pattern of canals.

It possesses enormous, metallic scales that resemble coins, as well as whiskers that protrude from its chin and undulates like the paper dragons seen in Chinese New Year parades. Because of its likeness, the fish is thought to bring good luck and riches, which is why it is such a popular aquarium fish.

Watch to find fascinating realities about creatures from everywhere the world.
