Man Demonstrates Easy DIY Hammock Setup With One Tree

This man demonstrated how to set up a DIY hammock with a single tree. At first, he gathered all the required raw materials consisting of wooden posts, bolts, nuts, washers, locking carabiners, a ground stake and a thick rope. At first, he drilled holes in the wooden posts and attached them using the carabiners and placed the ground stake at a distance from the post. They later tied one end of the hammock to the tree and the other end to the rope affixed to the post before hopping into the hammock.

00:00Oh, hey, sorry, you caught me there, just watering the flowers.
00:12What's that?
00:13You only have one tree and want to know how to hang your hammock?
00:17Let's go over here.
00:18All right, so you'll need a few things besides your hammock, like a tree.
00:24This guy, which I'll show you how to build.
00:29A heavy duty ground stake and a rope.
00:34Got to get a rope that's a little bit thicker than a paracord because you don't want to
00:37fall.
00:38What?
00:39Besides the tree, this will be your main support.
00:42To put this together, I cut two by twos at six and a half feet.
00:46I also went ahead and purchased some bolts, nuts and washers, and I picked up two locking
00:53carabiners.
00:55The holes were already set in this door hinge, so it made it nice and easy.
00:59Just put the bolts through the outside holes and through about an inch and a half down
01:04on the two by twos.
01:06Secure in the back with a washer and a nut.
01:09Properly together, this will be able to scissor open.
01:14Next you're going to take your heavy duty ground stake and place it in the ground about
01:1712 feet away from your tree.
01:22You want to be careful when you whip it out, but next up, time to take out your hammock.
01:28Since we really only have one good tree, I'm going to use this magnolia.
01:32Go ahead and set up one side of the hammock on the tree.
01:39Don't forget to clip.
01:41Once you have the first end attached, grab the second end and lay it on the ground.
01:47Next it's time to set up our tripod.
01:49We're going to take this setup, which is two legs of our tripod.
01:52We'll just place the legs on the ground like so, tie a loop at one end of the cord, and
01:57place it on the locking carabiner that's hanging from the door hinge.
02:07Go ahead and lock that carabiner as well.
02:14Depending on how long your hammock is, you may need an additional rope.
02:18This is a daisy chain rope.
02:19It allows you to make connections at various points.
02:23I'm going to connect this to the other carabiner.
02:26I'm going through, grab the loop, and then I will pull one end out.
02:39Through, through, tighten, and there we go.
02:45We're going to take the other end of the hammock and place it on this new daisy chained
02:48rope.
02:49There, connected.
02:53Now without dropping your frame, you're going to go ahead and grab this other rope right
02:57here, and you're going to feed it through the stake that you placed in the ground.
03:02So we're going to go in and through and up.
03:07There we go.
03:08Now we have a hold of our support, and we're going to grab the end of the rope that goes
03:12from the stake up to this carabiner.
03:15We're going to grab it, and we're going to put in a slippery half hitch.
03:19Get a loop, do a half twist, and pull this string, the tail, up.
03:28Ta-da!
03:29Now you'll pick up that tail that's on the outside of the stake, and you're going to
03:34thread it right through here.
03:37What you're doing here is making a trucker's hitch, and this is going to allow you to give
03:41it some tension.
03:45And now you'll be able to tighten this rope down using leverage.
03:50Once the tension is taught, let's tie it off.
03:54I like to use a half hitch.
04:01Next is try to test what we built.
04:05Go ahead.
04:06Have a seat.
04:07But be careful, because now, you're awesome.
04:12It's even safe for kids!
