Shireen Abu Akleh killing: International calls grow for independent probe

A renowned Al Jazeera journalist was killed last week during an Israeli raid in the West Bank. Shireen Abu Akleh was wearing a flak jacket with the word "press" clearly marked. Israelis and Palestinians have traded blame over who fired the fatal shot, while Israel has opened an investigation into heavy-handed police tactics used during Abu Akleh's funeral procession, which almost caused her coffin to fall to the ground. We get analysis with Sherif Mansour, Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator at the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Meanwhile in Lebanon, the militant group Hezbollah has lost its majority in parliament. According to official results, 12 new pro-reform MPs have won seats. The newcomers come from different religious backgrounds and have broken the hold of traditional parties in parliament. The elections held this past Sunday were the first since the devastating explosion at Beirut's port in 2020.Finally, intense sandstorms in Iraq have pushed local authorities to advise people to remain indoors. Visibility dropped so much that it forced the country to close its airspace. At least eight sandstorms have hit Iraq since April, and thousands of people have ended up in hospital due to respiratory complications. Our correspondents Lucile Wassermann and Yasmine Mosimann report.
