Improvisation for Two Augmented Voice Performers

Voice is an incomparable material for expression. Thinking about different types of narration or singing performances. Our contemporary digital culture, and more precisely the world of computer music proposes everyday novel approaches and manipulations of this sonic contents. For example, speech coding technologies enabled the development of voice production models which today are intensively used and improved by artists in order to affect the emotional impact of pre-recorded sentences or realtime voice. Nicolas d'Alessandro (researcher) and Laurence Moletta (musician) have a priori different backgrounds. But their common belief in the idea of augmenting the vocal performing language made evident their meeting on stage. The improvised piece they play aims at contrasting two different representations of gesturally-controlled voice transformations. One is instrument-centered and intimate, the other is opened and theatral. This performance is achieved through two innovative instruments: the HandSketch and the Myhag's Puppet.
