CHAOS, COVID AND THE CROSS

After two years, religious activities associated with the observance of Holy Week in the Philippines are back. Despite government warnings to the public to continue maintaining health protocols, a bus terminal in Pasay City is packed with people rushing home to the provinces. Churches are filled for the 'Visita Iglesia' or the traditional visit to seven churches for the Stations of the Cross that depict the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Self-flagellation, as penance for one's sins, is a common sight on the streets.
