Ornidia obesa is a species of syrphid fly in the family Syrphidae.
Known to reproduce in human latrines and carry medically important bacteria such as Salmonella, Shygella and Mycrobacteryum.
Larvae also develop on animal carcasses.
Recorded case of accidental myiasis in humans. "An eight-year-old child was treated at a medical clinic for having excreted two larvae and a pupa in the feces and had hyperthermia, intestinal obstruction and severe abdominal pain. The medical therapy administered was based on mebendazole and ivermectin at the doses indicated in the 24 hours after drug application, several larvae were expelled along with diarrheal feces
