Chizhou, abbreviated as "Chi", alias "Qiu Pu", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, one of the 27 cities in the central region of the Yangtze River Delta, an important riverside port city in the Yangtze River basin and the centre of the international tourism and cultural demonstration zone in southern Anhui. As of November 2020, the city has one district and three counties, with a total area of 8,399 square kilometres. According to the seventh census, the resident population of Chizhou was 1,342,764,000 as of 00:00 on 1 November 2020. In 2021, the gross regional product of Chizhou City will be RMB 10.42 billion.
Chizhou is located in east China, south of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the lower Yangtze River, across the river from Anqing to the north, Huangshan to the south, Jiujiang to the southwest, and Wuhu, Tongling and Xuancheng to the east and northeast respectively. It is the location of Jiuhua Mountain, one of the four most famous Buddhist mountains in China. It is one of the first pilot cities for sponge city construction in China, a national green ecological demonstration city, and the first pilot city for the integration of elderly care in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Chizhou is known as the "land of a thousand poets" and has a number of national intangible cultural heritages such as the "living fossil of Chinese drama" Gui Chi Nuo Opera, the "progenitor of Beijing Opera" Qingyang Cavity and Dongzhi Flower Lantern. The city has a long history of Buddhist and tea culture.It has been awarded the National Forest City, the China Habitat Environment Award, the most ecologically competitive city in China and the National Model City (County) for Double Support.
