At that time, our post was called ‘nayi post’ (new post)… In those days, it was considered a drop zone and aircrafts used to drop ration supplies. We used to patrol using horses and yaks. I remember that Chinese were on top of the hill on the other side, while were in the plains,” he said.
Phunchok Tashi, a veteran of the 1962 Indo-China war, recalls a time when the Chinese Army used loudspeakers to play Hindi songs in an attempt to befriend the Indian soldiers and get them to leave their posts.

हिंदी सिनेमा में क्लासिक फिल्मों में शुमार ‘हकीकत’ में युद्ध का यर्थाथवादी चित्रण किया गया था। जिसमें युद्ध के मैदान में डटे सैनिकों के दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाया गया था। इस फिल्म को मुख्य रूप से लद्दाख में शूट किया गया था। इस फिल्म का बजट उस समय तकरीबन 30 लाख रुपए था। फिल्म की सफलता का अनुमान इसी बात से लगाया जा सकता है कि फिल्म ने दुनियाभर में करीब ढाई करोड़ रुपए से ज्यादा की कमाई की थी। चीन के सिपाहियों के हाथों हार के दो साल बाद रिलीज हुई इस फिल्म ने देश के विश्वास को मजबूत करने में अहम भूमिका निभाई, जो युद्ध के झटके से जूझ रहा था। इस फिल्म ने लोगों में देशभक्ति की भावना का भी संचार किया।
