CHRISTOPHER Alvarez, from New York, believes he is the oldest person in the world with his condition. The 24-year-old was born with a rare form of dwarfism called Thanatophoric dysplasia type II, with doctors breaking the news to his mother Maria that he wouldn’t live beyond the age of five. Christopher said: “Every single year after that we go to the same doctors and rub it in his face that I’m still alive!” Despite doctors’ grim prognosis, Christopher has exceeded all expectations and recently graduated from Columbia University with a masters in journalism. As well as working the news beat, Christopher also uses his journalistic skills to help him track down and meet some of his favourite celebrities, including Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez. He said: "When I track celebrities, that takes a lot of dedication. I need to know everything, every single step they take." Christopher, whose family are of Colombian descent, has built up a huge social media following on Instagram and TikTok, initially going viral after Colombia’s star soccer player James Rodriguez posted a video of them together. Christopher said: “My dream in terms of journalism is to be able to tell stories of the immigrants that make New York City the diverse city it is. Being a disabled member of the community, it’s not easy to change the narrative. But there’s always got to be a first time for everything.”
