It’s one of the biggest medical scandals in German history. At the end of the 1950s, the drug thalidomide, under the brand name Contergan, was launched on the West German market. It was supposed to help pregnant women with insomnia and nausea. But: just one pill could cause severe malformations in unborn children. The drug was taken off the market 60 years ago.
