Vaping Flavors May Damage The Heart

Vaping became trendy in the US and even worldwide and was presented as a way of quitting smoking. But e-cigarettes have been accused of increasing nicotine use in teens as they became widely popular with young people.
Vaping flavors have been blamed for encouraging young people to vape but a study from USF health also showed that e-liquid flavorings could also damage the heart.
The study looked into 3 e-liquid flavors: vanilla custard, Hawaiian POG and apple jax which all of them contain nicotine. Mouse cardiac muscle cells showed decrease cell viability and rise necrotic cells when exposed to these vapors. Those effects were proven worse with longer exposure and increased doses.
The vanilla custard and apple jax flavors were shown more toxic than Hawaiian POG, with vanilla custard being the most toxic of the three. It could be because it contains aldehydes used for vanilla and cinnamon flavoring, which already has been proven toxic to cells in the past.
Human cells exposed to e-liquid base with added nicotine have reduced beating rates and even more with e-liquid base with vanilla custard flavoring.
Despite being an alternative to smoking, vaping could come with its own risks besides nicotine addiction.
