DUTERTE RECOGNIZES FILIPINO OLYMPIANS
President Rodrigo Duterte welcomes the Filipino athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympics in Malacanang on Aug. 23, 2021. Duterte conferred the Presidential Medal of Merit to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who won the country's first gold medal during the awarding of incentives to Filipino Olympians. Diaz also received P15 million from the Philippine Sport Commission (PSC) and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor), a certificate of turnover of a housing unit from the National Housing Authority (NHA) and P3 million from the Office of the President (OP). Duterte conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kamagi to boxing silver medalists Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio. They each received P5 million from the PSC, a certificate of turnover of a housing unit from the NHA and P2 million from the OP. Duterte also conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kamagi to boxing bronze medalist Eumir Feliz Marcial who received P2 million from the PSC, a certificate of turnover of a housing unit from the NHA and P1 million from the OP. Mansueto Velasco, the boxing silver medalist in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, was also given P500,000 from the OP.
