Delhi_ 'The Men Ride'- President's Bodyguards Horse Show

The President's Bodyguards perform equestrian skills show at the Silver Trumpet ceremony, in celebration of the glory and commitment of the seniormost unit of the Indian Army.

The ceremony that is held with every serving President of India, marks the 240th anniversary of the regiment this year in 2013 when it was held on 30th of March,

In the year 1923, the then Viceroy of India, Lord Reading, first conferred the distinction, when the bodyguard had completed 150 years of honorable service. Each successive Viceroy thereafter, presented a Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the bodyguard. This practice turned into a traditional ceremony over time and has been continued by the successive serving Presidents of India. The title of PBG also came along after independence in the year 1950.

Today, the PBG is a small unit of exclusive men with special qualities and attributes. Selected through a rigorous process, its officers are trained for operational duties, both as paratroopers and tank men, along with the ceremonial duties.

The PBG completed 240 years on the 30th of March 2013 and the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner were presented by the President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee in a ceremony that was held in the Forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Today the Trumpet ceremony is held when a new president takes office.

The ceremony customarily includes a mounted parade, followed by an Audio Video Show on the significance of the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner and the history of PBG. A showcase of equestrian skills and a musical ride are also performed by the PBG as a part of the ceremony. Apart from remarkable drills, skills of horsemanship and ceremonial insignia, the regiment mounted on the resplendently groomed horses exhibits discipline and morale.
