One Year On, No Justice for Unnao Rape Victim’s Family

In April 2018, BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Senger was arrested for kidnapping and raping a woman in Makhi, Unnao. He was arrested after the Allahabad High Court intervened in the matter. The father of the victim was brutally beaten to death, allegedly by the brother of Senger in Makhi and the uncle of the victim has been jailed. Senger has claimed that the opposition has fabricated a story in order to defame him and stall his ever rising political career. The BJP backed him, until the public outrage became too much to handle. In early April, The Wire revisited the family of six who lost their sole bread winner in this case.
