A baby elephant accidentally fell into an open well in a village in Jharkhand and was rescued by forest officials earlier this week. After eight hours, the trapped elephant trudged its way to safer grounds, with a little help from the forest department. The forest department’s concerted effort led to a successful rescue mission. The villagers alerted the forest department, who tore down a vertical section of the well and paved a safe passage for the elephant to escape. They cleared the path so that the animal could itself walk out of the open well. After the pictures were shared online, it quickly went viral and managed to garner thousands of views and likes. "Such a heartwarming picture,” Indian Forest Service (IFS) official Parveen Kaswan tweeted.
