Plant the Moon with Team Rainbird! EP 9

Welcome back! We’re in the home stretch now, so it’s a good time to start reflecting a bit on the project.

There are a couple of things I would change next time. First, our soil compacts and erodes very easily which makes for exposed roots and very little root penetration into the dense LHS. Because of that, in the future I would reserve some of the LHS/compost mixture so I could topdress the soil with another layer of it and keep the plant roots below ground. That would help a little bit with the issue you see in the video, where my plants are beginning the lean to the side because they can’t support their own weight on account of the shallow roots.

Secondly, I would try to use my grow tent a little more efficiently. Given how much vertical space I have here, it’s a shame to not be able to use all of it. Some shelving and another set of growlights would enable me to have more than one layer of plants growing without needing more space. That doesn’t mean I would have access to more LHS, but that’s a different problem altogether

There’s a little bit of motivation in this video too. Times are tough, but I hope these little resilient tomatoes sticking it out and successfully growing can be inspirational for someone out there.

Finally, our tomatoes are beginning to ripen. Will they be ripe before the end of the project? Fingers crossed!

See you next week
