Diyarbakır is located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, famous for its watermelon and castle.

History: While the history of Diyarbakır was known to date back to 3000 BC, it has been determined that the history of civilization dates back to 7,500 BC as a result of researches conducted with the Çayönü excavations. Hurriler, Mitanni, Hittites, Assyrians, Meds, Persians, Alexander the Great, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Seljuks and Ottomans reigned in and around Diyarbakır.

The name Diyarbekir emerged from a tribe that emigrated from Arabia. The Bekr Tribe from Arabia settled around Tigris. The region was named Diyar-ı Bekr, which means “Land of the Bekr”. Over time, this name began to be said as Diyarbekir. It was changed to Diyarbakır in 1937 by the decision of the Council of Ministers. Today, Diyarbakır is described as the Paris of the East.
