First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh describing him as a "devoted consort to the Queen" who had been present for many key moments in modern Scottish history.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament, she added: "I always enjoyed my conversations with the Duke of Edinburgh. He was a thoughtful man, deeply interesting, and fiercely intelligent."
