Thousands waited in 'hunger queues' to apply for free food in Spain, as the number of unemployed topped four million in February.
Unemployment figures have reached a five year high, as Spain’s struggling economy is hit hard by the pandemic.
A plummet in tourism and COVID restrictions have impacted businesses across the country.
Spanish Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz said the pandemic exacerbates deficiencies on Twitter:
“The rise in unemployment, caused by the third wave, is bad news, reflecting the structural flaws of the labour market that are accentuated by the pandemic”.
Gimenez blames government inertia for the increase in hunger queues.
