EU 내일부터 화이자 백신 접종...모더나 백신 맞은 의사 알레르기 증상 첫 보고
As the death toll from COVID-19 rises across Europe,...some EU states will begin vaccinations starting Sunday.
Over in the U.S., where vaccinations began on Monday,... a severe allergic reaction was reported in connection with the Moderna vaccine.
Bae Eun-ji has more.
European states, including Germany, France, and Italy, will distribute vaccine doses made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech from Sunday.
Austria, Bulgaria, and Spain have also scheduled inoculations to begin on Sunday.
In January, manufacturers will deliver batches of the vaccine to Switzerland and the Netherlands.
But there are still concerns about whether the vaccine is effective against a new variant of the virus recently found in the UK.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., where more than one million people have received COVID-19 vaccinations,... a doctor had a serious allergic reaction after receiving the Moderna vaccine.
According to the New York Times, a physician from the Boston Medical Center, who has a severe shellfish allergy, said he experienced a severe reaction almost immediately after being inoculated.
He said his heart rate spiked to 150 beats per minute, which is twice as high as normal,... and his blood pressure plummeted.
His tongue went numb, and he was drenched in cold sweat... before recovering quickly with treatment.
This is the first reaction of its kind linked to the Moderna vaccine... as until now, reports of severe allergic reactions had only been linked to Pfizer's vaccine.
The CDC issued advice that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines might not be appropriate for people with a history of anaphylaxis connected to any component of the drugs.
But for those with other allergies that are not related to vaccines,... the CDC advised they should still get their shots and wait for 15 minutes after the inoculation before leaving the vaccination site.
