Bhojan Bank: Unique Initiative By Kanpur Locals To Provide Meal To The Poor And Needy

In India, around 200 million people are malnourished who comprise of almost 15 per cent of country’s total population. To combat this issue on a small but significant level, a unique initiative ‘Bhojan Bank’ has started in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. ‘Bhojan Bank Seva Samiti’ promotes donating ‘roti’ or bread to poor people instead of giving money. This organisation collects money, grains and other items through which poor people are provided with nutritious food. Locals of Kanpur have joined the cause to provide food to beggars. Organisation is taking up this social work on a weekly basis for now but they soon want to make it a daily service.
