Today we're looking at a special railway, the 750mm narrow gauge Waldenburg railway, which is the last of it's kind in Switzerland that is operational. The only other operational railway with the same gauge is the Marzilibahn, that is however a funicular.
The story of its conception is an interesting read on wikipedia (at least the German version). Originally a railway was to be constructed via Bubendorf - Reigoldswil with a possible connection to Balsthal with a tunnel. The construction of the tunnel actually started at the end of the 19th century and was stopped due to a lack of expertise. Finally the track was planned via Holstein with its terminus in Waldenburg.
The reason I wanted to document this track, is due to the fact that it will be converted to a 1000m gauge railway in the following years and operated by BLT (Basel Land tram), the company with the yellow trams in Basel. There are talks of making it fully automated. The will then become a historic video of what once was.
Even the trains have already been sold to a narrow gauge railway in Slovakia.

Enjoy the video, leave your comments and subscribe in order not to miss any future videos. I have a lot of videos passing through the terminus station in Liestal to various locations in Switzerland.
