Hi, I'm Sean from Cannon Pest Management. You might often need Pest controllers saying how they use one way doors to remove possums so I'd thought I'd just quickly share you exactly what they are. We have two types, this one is use in tire roofs. We take tire from the roof and we place this door where the tire goes. This opening goes inside roof and this sitting on top of the roof. What happens is when the possum goes the roof it comes out pushes the flap and then the flap closes again and that means the possums can no longer return because they cannot re open the flap to enter the roof again.
The other type of possum door that we have is this one. This door can be installed on any type of roof. Can be installed on tin roofs, flat roofs, roofs where there's no access to get into and it works much the same way.
So, one way to locate the possum exit point where you installed this door. The possum has to lead the hole through this exit and it simply has flap inside. It means that the possum cannot go out and it cannot come back in because there's flap here preventing them from re-entering.
The reason why we use doors rather than traps is we don't have to handle the animal at all. The issue with traps most often injure themselves when they're in trap often they left in the trap for at least one day before the pest control returns to release the possum. In that time, they bash their head against the cage, they often rid their skin off their nose and a lot of stress on the possum.
In fact the Victoria states that you have to release the possum within 24hours being trapped and the possum should also be released at dust. So there's less stress on the animal while trying to find the safe place to retrick. That's the basic run down of how it works and why we use them. Thank you.
