Over 18,000 People Quarantined in China as COVID Cases Rise in Asia More than 12,000 of those in isolation are in the western province of Xinjiang, the epicenter of the country’s latest outbreak. Officials have ordered mass testing and are restricting public transit in order to contain the resurgence. The last time China was reporting similar numbers was in April, with the country’s peak being over 189,000 cases in February. Other countries in Asia, including Japan and Vietnam, are seeing a growing number of cases despite low numbers for the past couple of months. India has been experiencing a large surge, with their total case number now ranking third globally after the U.S. and Brazil.
