Florida Passes New York in Recorded Coronavirus Cases It is second behind California on the list of most affected states. According to Reuters, California and Florida have 448,497 and 423,855 cases, respectively, as of July 26. New York has dropped to third, but still has the most recorded deaths from COVID-19 with over 32,000. Florida, which has nearly 6,000 fatalities, is reporting over 10,000 cases daily this month on average. Despite the surge, Governor Ron DeSantis has held off on issuing a mandatory statewide order for masks. Thanks to face-covering rules, New York is keeping the virus under control, adding an average of 700 cases a day in July. Reuters adds there are almost 4.2 million COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and over 146,000 recorded deaths. America accounts for nearly 25 percent of confirmed fatalities from coronavirus worldwide.
