Gov't holds info session on Korean 'Digital New Deal'

The government held a business information session to encourage companies to invest in businesses as part of a Korean version of the 'New Deal'... focused on creating a digital-based job market.

South Korea's advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, 5G and non-contact services have played a key role in fighting the outbreak.
To further develop related industries, South Korea's Ministry of Science held a business information session Tuesday in Seoul on the Korean version of a 'New Deal' for digitalization.

South Korea's Digital New Deal focuses on creating a digital-based job market and speeding up the digitalization of the economy in the aftermath of the pandemic.
About 623 million U.S. dollars has been allocated for the Digital New Deal from the government's third COVID-19-related supplementary budget.
The biggest portion of that, about 485 million dollars is allocated for strengthening data, networks and artificial inteligence systems.
Another 58 million dollars is to be used for educating citizens on digitalization and for cyber security.
Also, a portion of the fund will also be used to develop non-contact service industries... and to train innovative talent.
"Through this project we plan to create 300-thousand jobs."
The Ministry of Science and ICT official added that they plan to invest about 10-point-7 billion dollars until 2022 to further develop technologies to seek new sources of revenue.
"The ministry expects the digital new deal not only to contribute to the economic recovery in the short term, but also help the country lead the global digital transformation. Eum Ji-young Arirang News."
