Lego Pulls Advertising for White House
and Police Building Sets On Thursday, marketing service Rakuten sent an
email out on behalf of the Lego Group requesting a
number of products to be removed from marketing. The email said the changes were to be made “ASAP” in
light of "recent events" occurring in the United States. Rakuten, via
'The Toy Book' "Recent events” refers to the protests occurring
in response to the killing of George Floyd, a
46-year-old black man, by a white police officer. The products being removed from marketing are
reportedly 31 different sets that depict scenes
with police, firefighters and the White House. The Lego Group later took to Twitter to
clarify their move, saying digital advertising
was only being “temporarily [paused]” and
that the products are still for sale. A day earlier, the Lego Group also
announced that they would be donating
$4 million to organizations that are
dedicated to supporting black children. Lego, via Instagram
