Pandemic Praise: SoCal Food Bank Making a Difference | HOPE IN ACTION | COVID-19 Crisis

As of Thursday, California's death toll with the novel coronavirus surpassed 2,014 deaths and more than 49,840 people who have contracted the virus. Health officials announced Wednesday that Angelenos are dying at a higher rate than others in the state, with 56 new deaths reported over the last day. The U.S. death total has reached a staggering 63,733 deaths and 1,095,445 confirmed cases. Worldwide, COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of 233,388 people. In these uncertain times, uplifting stories of people helping to support each other make lives better. Thursday's community spotlight is on "Hope in Action" food bank located in Hermosa Beach. The program is funded primarily through Hope Chapel and receives food donations from various markets throughout the South Bay including Gelson's, Lazy Acres, and Costco, to name a few. The outreach ministry seeks to help families, especially through these challenging times, and has been a pillar in the community since the late 80's. The Director spoke with Los Angeles Reporter Germany Kent about the program, the requirements to participate and advise to families on how to stay safe during the pandemic.
