On Diwali this year, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government will celebrate deepotsav or the festival of lamps in Ayodhya, where over 5.50 lakh earthen lamps or diyas will be lit on Saturday, 26 October. The UP government further intends breaking its own record set last year during the Deepotsav celebrations. Also, a 3D laser show will be organised by the tourism department on Chhoti Diwali. Nearly Rs 130 crore is expected to be spent on festivities, which will include Ramlila being performed by various international troupes from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Philippines. Started in 2017 after BJP came to power, the Deepotsav has recently been categorised as a state fair.
