松之山には青海町「山姥」と並んで越後二大伝説の１つ「松山鏡伝説」があります。「松山鏡」の起源はインドの民話だといわれています。それが中国に伝わり日本へ。本当の鏡というものを知らない人はどんな人生を歩んでいくかという仏教説話です。自分の目で見たり、自分の耳で聞いたりしたものを、本当のことだと思い込んでしまいがちです。この場合の自分の目や耳を鏡だと説いています。
