Wigan Mining Statue Unveiled

The Wigan Heritage and Mining Monument (WHAMM) fund raised to get a statue to commemorate Wigan's mining community, placed in the shadow of Wigan Town Hall, former Wigan Mining College. The statue, created by sculptor Steve Winterburn, is of a man, woman and child has no base or plinth so that they appear to be walking on the cobbles, as a proud working-class family would have. An unveiling ceremony had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus.
