One of the "must-do-dive sites" of Bonaire is the Hilma Hooker Wreck. Easily accessible from the shore. max depth is around 30 meters.
The Hilma Hooker is a 236-foot Dutch freighter built in Krimpen aan den IJssel, the Netherlands. After being bought and sold, renamed many times over the years, even sunk and lifted again, the Hilma Hooker ran 1984 into technical difficulties near Bonarie. When officials checked the freighter they found 25'000 Pounds (!) of Marijuana hidden on the boat. So the ship got sized by the authorities. Because it was a piece of Evidence it had to rest in the harbor. But due to technical difficulties it had problems staying afloat. so it got pulled to its actual destination, where it sank and got to rest on it's starboard side.
