The Waterford Crystal New Year’s Eve Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, and weighs 11,875 pounds. The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles that vary in size, and range in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side.
For Times Square 2020, 192 new Waterford Crystal triangles will be featured on the New Year’s Eve Ball, introducing the “Gift of Goodwill.” The new “Gift of Goodwill” design utilizes three pineapple cuts signifying the traditional image of hospitality and goodwill.
The unveiling event was hosted by Tim Tompkins, President, Times Square Alliance, Co-Producer of New Year’s Eve, Tom Brennan, Master Artisan, Waterford Crystal and Jeffrey Straus, President, Countdown Entertainment, Co-Producer of New Year’s Eve.
