New Yorkers and visitors bid one final goodbye to their unpleasant, frustrating, and forgettable memories.

This year’s annual Good Riddance Day event offers participants the opportunity to wipe away their unhappy memories from the past year, allowing all to enter 2025 feeling lighter and with a clean slate.

Jonathan Bennett, host of the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration, leads the event which features two large chalkboards that literally and symbolically erase 2024. The public also write down and erase the bad memories they want to let go of from the past year using miniature chalkboards.

Additionally, online submissions are displayed on a 148 foot high digital billboard in Times Square as part of the event, showcasing what people are saying goodbye to from this year.

The Times Square Alliance, One Times Square, and Countdown Entertainment are the co-organizers of Times Square New Year’s Eve.
