Seoul, Washington to finalize joint wintertime air exercise amid possibility of postponement

South Korea and the U.S. may postpone or scale down their wintertime "Vigilant Ace" air exercise to support efforts to revive dialogue with North Korea.
Seoul's defense ministry says it's working closely with the U.S. to finalize plans for the joint exercise.
The new drills are expected to replace "Vigilant Ace", which usually happened around December.
Local media outlets cited sources as saying it could be held under a different name... to be finalized during the allies' security talks later this month.
The exercise was postponed last year to avoid provoking North Korea.
The regime commonly condemns the maneuvers as a rehearsal for invasion.
