Rohit Sharma suffered the ill-fate of being dismissed for a duck in his last outing before the 1st Test vs South Africa starts on October 2. During the ongoing tour match of the visiting South Africans against the Indian Board President's XI being played at Vizianagaram, Rohit opened the BPXI innings with Mayank Agarwal after the tourists had declared their 1st innings on 279/6.But Rohit lasted just 2 balls as in the 2nd over of the innings bowled by fast bowler Vernon Philander, the batsman was caught by Heinrich Klaasen without scoring.

रोहित के लिए रेड बॉल क्रिकेट ओपनर के तौर पर शुरुआत बिल्कुल भी अच्छी नहीं हुई है और वे दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ अभ्यास मैच के तीसरे दिन बोर्ड प्रेजिडेंट इलेवन के लिए ओपनिंग के दौरान शून्य पर आउट हो गए। बतौर ओपनर रोहित से ढेरों उम्मीदें लगा रहे फैंस को उस समय मायूसी का सामना करना पड़ा जब रोहित अपनी पारी के दूसरे ही ओवर में वारेन फिलेंडर की गेंद का शिकार बन गए और खाता भी नहीं खोल सके। बता दें कि रेड बॉल ओपनर के तौर पर यह रोहित शर्मा का पहला मैच था, जिसमें वह बुरी तरह से फ्लॉप रहे।
