HONG KONG — A U.S. woman has caused online controversy as she is caught on camera lecturing to Hong Kong protestors, "safety is more important than freedom."

The woman can be seen ripping off protestors posters in the Prince Edward District, which sparked locals to engage with her.

The woman challenges demonstrators with "what a waste of time for everybody. You guys should be enjoying your Sunday."

She asks for one case where violence has led to a solution and asserts that those who have approached her must value their freedom more than their safety, before offering, "I think safety is more important than freedom."

Citing netizens, NextShark reports that the woman's actions could be an attempt to provoke the protestors to attack her in order to cast a negative light on them.

According to activists, the woman could be among anti-protest westerners that have been hired by pro-China lawmakers to influence our views on the protest.
