VP Binay takes amphibian to flooded Makati

MANILA - Vice-President Jejomar Binay and his son, Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, rode an amphibious vehicle to help stranded commuters in flooded parts of Makati. An ANC report said some Makati residents are using boats and makeshift rafts after waist-high to chest-high floods hit parts of the city. At least one bus full of passengers has been stranded along Buendia since 6 am because of the floods. The Vice-President said it was the first time in a very long while that floods hit Barangay Pio del Pilar. "I am here and I grew up in this area. You know, ito nangyayari ito way back in the 50s. Ngayon lang nangyari itong pagkakabaha dito sa amin sa Pio del Pilar," he said in an ANC interview. He said he was saddened by the floods but was also amused by the innovation of some Filipinos. Mayor Binay said several families in Barangay Rizal, Bangkal, Palanan and parts of San Isidro have been evacuated. The mayor said South Superhighway is "practically a parking lot" while the whole stretch of Pasong Tamo is not passable for light vehicles. He said Buendia between Pasong Tamo and South Superhighway has waist-high floods. ANC, August 20, 2013
