MANILA - Metro Manila and nearby provinces are reeling from heavy monsoon rains that have caused massive flooding on Monday. The floods forced the cancellation of classes, government offices, courts as well as trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange. At least two people have been reported killed while nearly 20,000 families were affected. The rains are being enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring although better weather is expected in the next few days. Various government agencies were quickly mobilized to assist all those affected by the flooding including the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Metro Manila Development Authority and Department of Social Welfare and Development. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa advised the public to stay indoors. ANC The Bureau, August 19, 2013
