Wee: Hey Maszlee, Guan Eng! What have you been doing all this while?

MCA president Wee Ka Siong said that both Education Minister Maszlee Malik and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had created confusion among the public with their statements on the introduction of Jawi khat (calligraphy art) lessons in the Year 4 Bahasa Malaysia textbook.

"Maszlee said something which is totally different from what Guan Eng said.

"The latter said the khat lesson is not compulsory but optional but we couldn't find this word ‘optional’ in the Education Minister's statement.

"So now, they also want to delegate power to teachers and use their own creativity to teach..what does it mean precisely? Does it mean that it's okay for them not to teach?"

Asked what would MCA do with khat should it come into power again, Wee said: "We know the system, we know how to deal with this issue professionally. We don't promise you the sky."

The government had slashed khat lessons from six pages to three pages in the textbook and made it optional after strong objection from the non-Malay community.
