Former President Barack Obama is urging people to speak out against gun violence.
He wrote in a Friday tweet marking National Gun Violence Awareness Day: "Last week, it was Virginia Beach. But day after day and year after year, too many families and communities are shattered by senseless gun violence. We can't get numb to this…pledge to speak out, #WearOrange — and vote — to protect lives." This year marks the group's fifth national awareness day.  According to the Wear Orange campaign, orange "is the color that Hadiya Pendleton's friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15 — just one week after performing at President Obama's 2nd inaugural parade in 2013."
