T. G. Sheppard had fifteen of number 1 hits throughout the 70s and 80s. Some of these include, "Devil in the Bottle", "Tryin' to Beat the Morning Home" and "Last Cheater's Waltz".

"Only One You" was written by Michael Garvin and Bucky Jones, and recorded and released in 1981 by T.G. Sheppard. The song quickly topped the country chart and made it to 68 on the Billboard Hot 100.
