Edessa (formerly also called Vendena or Neron City), is a city and capital of the Prefecture of Pella, belongs to the Region of Central Macedonia and is also the capital of the expanded Kallikratis Municipality of Edessa. The city is famous for its waterfalls, and is located on the ancient Egnatia Road. It was founded in 813 BC. by the first Macedonian King Vasilias, Heraklides Karanos and was the first capital of the Macedonian Kingdom. [1]

The population of the city of Edessa is 18,229, while that of the extended municipality of Edessa amounts to 28,814 inhabitants (census 2011). Also, until the discovery of the Vergina Royal Tombs in Imathia, by Manolis Andronikos, many still believe that Ancient Aiges are located in the archaeological site of the city, based on archaeological views.
Edessa is 95 km from Thessaloniki, and 25 km from Aridea.
