Punch the neck. Poke the eyes. Kick the crotch. For many people, particularly women, those moves are the first that come to mind as ways to neutralise an attack. But in real-life situations, these self-defence moves often don’t work, according to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt instructor Fernando Junior. The co-founder of BeWater Hong Kong explains that there is a natural instinct to protect vulnerable areas like the eyes, and many predators expect and are ready for such responses.
