Maharashtra and Haryana go to the polls on Wednesday, with Congress and BJP locked in a battle for the future, though with different objectives.
For BJP, which has staked its all by junking allies in favour of PM Narendra Modi's appeal, pole position in both states is a must.
A win for BJP in Haryana would prevent a rival from controlling Chandigarh while wresting Mantralaya after snubbing regional biggie Shiv Sena would be a big morale boost. Given its brute majority and Congress's decimation in Lok Sabha, a double win would give Modi unprecedented latitude in policy-making and further consolidate his unassailable position in BJP.
