Sterlite factory in Thoothukudi district has been closed since midnight after the continuous protests staged by the environment groups and MDMK chief Vaiko. Tamil Nadu pollution control board officials are getting ready to close the Sterlite industries and they issued closure notice around 10am this morning. The Supreme Court meanwhile is all set to pronounce its verdict on the fate of the Sterlite Industries on Tuesday. The copper smelting plant in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin was ordered to halt its operations in 2010 by Madras High Court for violating environment norms.
