Jallikattu, Tamil Nadu’s famous bull taming festival, began at Thachankurichi village. It is the first officially-permitted Jallikattu organised as part of Pongal festivities this year. Inaugurated by Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, the event is being held in accordance with stipulated guidelines. Over 800 bulls and 250 tamers have been permitted for the event. The permission came after subjecting the bulls to medical examination. Over 200 bulls have been let out from the Vaadivasal till now, said police sources. Security and veterinary teams have been deployed at the venue.
