Bhupen Hazarika’s brother says ‘It’s Tez’s decision’ after he refused to accept Bharat Ratna

Tez Hazarika, son of late Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika who was conferred Bharat Ratna posthumously, has refused to accept the honour to protest against the Citizenship Bill. Bhupen Hazarika’s brother Samar Hazarika has said that it was up to Tez to decide whether to accept the honour or not. The government had last month announced that Hazarika, also known as the ‘Bard of the Brahmaputra’, would be conferred India’s highest civilian honour, along with former President Pranab Mukherjee and the late social activist Nanaji Deshmukh.
